just read the newpaper online just now... the hey! section had this article on directors/producers using caucasian actresses for their films. and i'm IRKED... very IRKED in fact. i mean what in the world are they thinking? is it not enough that contemporary western culture has deeply influenced us and is so entrenched in our lifestyles that most of us see it as a major source of 'unique culture' and it's like a standard norm to be like the 'west'?
i mean... bollywood wld not be called bollywood if it had like caucasian pple acting in it right?? one can say that derivation of 'bollywood' from 'hollywood' expresses india's film industry explicit desire to emulate its more accomplished and stylish cousin but it also can be said that seeing how large and progressively accomplished 'bollywood' is getting... the whole '-ollywood' suffix is hence 'bestowed' upon developing film industry (hope u're not getting lost there..)
and we are all used to seeing indians in the films..(not a racialist statement here) save for the occasional ang moh baddies. but nothing more than that! i'm an avid supporter of the whole dancing round the coconut trees routine... i like how the pple just know the dance steps and join in, how one bullet can kill like 15 pple... i like the way they try to be 'westernised' by using english... in short: i'm a lover of indian films! sitting down every sunday, tuned into vasetham central with my lil bro (yes he's a fan of indian films too) ahahahah the life!!! woohoo!! *to all those closet indian movies lovers... be brave and take a stand!!!*
i seriously can't imagine the ang moh girls taking the place of the voluptuous indian beauties.. or that they are dressed in saris! saris are made for indians... and to some extent asians... but to an even less extent certain ang mohs!!!!!!! (i'm being bias here.. yes i know.. and i didn't express that really well...) i can't imagine them speaking in tamil or hindi or punjab... and u can just tell that they can't really speak it or it's just dubbed over... i can't imagine them cuddling up to the hot indian heartthrobs! *hands off evil bitches* i can't see then, having ang mohs in epic films (which i have a feeling might be filmed in the near future) eventually the whole bollywood industry wld be so westernised it wld not be bolloywood!
granted that it's inevitable that the 'western' influence still seeps thru into films, songs, and life in general. but ultimately, we shd still be aware of it and stick to our own sense of style. cos indian films are essentially indian, and it's the indian flavour that we, as indian films lovers (fans and closet fans alike) have come to love and not some 'westernised' indian films.... okie... i lost steam there... and then i'm not irked anymore.. well not THAT irked... i guess i just don't wanna see the indian film industry get over-run by all the blonde hair, fair skin, cooloured eyes (not that they are bad in the first place) type eventually becoming another HOLLYWOOD when those beautiful indian actors and actresses are what i have come to love and appreciate. i guess we really do have to stop looking to the 'west' as a acknowledge norm for many things in our lives and that we shd instead find it in our own cultures, and then embrce being who we really are.
